SCOOPING car of the year awards has almost become the norm for small car sensation the Skoda Fabia.
So much so that sales of the popular supermini are up 43 per cent in an area of the new car market that has actually dropped by six per cent.
And that fab momentum is likely to show no sign of slowing down thanks to some special editions designed to inject a summer splash of colour into both the Fabia and its smaller stablemate the Citigo.
Based on the SE model, the new Fabia Colour Edition models blend eye-catching looks with a generous equipment list aimed at providing extra value for money.
So buyers can choose between six colour combinations – selected to make the Fabia’s styling really stand out.
As well as the contrasting colours for the roof, door mirrors and 16-inch alloy wheels, all Colour Edition models feature LED daytime running lights and cruise control as standard.
That little lot would normally add £1,045 to the price of the SE, yet the Colour Edition costs £540 more, a useful saving of £505.
Two engine options are up for grabs – 1.0 MPI 75PS at £13,360 or 1.2 TSI 90PS for an extra £360.
Either way, they are both lively units and contribute to the feelgood factor generated by both these colour editions.
Which works best is a matter of taste, though the Race Blue Metallic model with white roof, alloys and wing mirrors works especially well.
Meanwhile, such has been the popularity of Skoda’s striking Yeti Monte Carlo range that the line-up is being expanded with two new engines.
Originally available with a 2.0 TDI 150PS diesel, the Yeti Monte Carlo range now features a 1.2 TSI 110PS petrol and 2.0 TDI 110PS diesel – with the former offered with an optional seven-speed DSG gearbox.
It means the 1.2 TSI 110PS model starts at £19,700, while adding the DSG automatic gearbox increases the price to £20,800. The new 2.0 TDI 110PS diesel is priced at £21,045.
All three newcomers are front-wheel drive and boast 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlamps with cornering function and dynamic angle control, black roof and door mirrors and black spoilers at the front and rear.
All versions also get a black front grille, Monte Carlo badging and LED rear lights while the cabin features a three-spoke leather multifunction steering wheel, sports seats with Monte Carlo upholstery and floor mats, instrument cluster and door sill trims.
