David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust
It’s one of the most enduring images in rock history.
A pencil thin, almost feline David Bowie, arms stretched like wings, regaling the Hammersmith Odeon throng in Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture, with the words ‘Ziggy played guitar’.
Originally released as the B side of The Jean Genie, which reached No 2 on the UK singles chart in late 1972, Ziggy Stardust may not be the most ingenious Bowie song but there are few better.
Mick Ronson’s Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar crackles and Bowie’s voice soars – the Nazz, and God-given ass.
