Drive-By Truckers – Carl Perkins’ Cadillac
From the Truckers’ towering 2004 album The Dirty South, Carl Perkins’ Cadillac tells the story of Sun Records supremo Sam Phillips and the respect he was held in by the golden quartet of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Perkins himself.
The title comes from the promise made by Phillips to buy a Cadillac for the first of his artists to sell a million records – and while Elvis was favourite, the first was actually Perkins with Blue Suede Shoes.
