- NEW CAR NEWS – FERRARI 458 SPECIALE A
THE most powerful open top car in Ferrari history will grace the residences of 499 Prancing Horse fans who have a spare quarter million rattling round in the offshore bank account.
It’s the 458 Speciale A, a new limited edition special series due to be unveiled at next month’s Paris Motor Show.
The A stands for Aperta, which in Italian means open, and the car is seen as a celebration of the success enjoyed by the various versions of the 458, not least category wins in classic endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring.
Light and lean, the Speciale’s aluminium retractable hard top takes 14 seconds to open or close, helping reduce the weight difference with its coupe stablemate to 50kg.
Savage performance of 0-62 in 3.0 seconds comes courtesy of the most powerful naturally-aspirated road-going V8 engine ever built by Ferrari.
It develops a massive 605bhp and 540Nm of torque at 6000 rpm yet only generates 275g/km of CO2 emissions.
The 458 Speciale A being shown in Paris sports a triple-layer yellow livery with a central stripe as well as five-spoke forged wheels while the dash, door panels and central tunnel are in a blue carbon-fibre.
