- NEW CAR NEWS – VAUXHALL ADAM ROCKS
GET ready to ramp up the volume with the latest hunk of heavy metal from Vauxhall.
Called the ROCKS, it’s a crossover version of the urban chic ADAM model and will roll into next month’s Geneva Motor Show for its world bow ahead of an autumn launch.
The model was previewed as a concept at last year’s Swiss extravaganza and was so well received that Vauxhall decided to push on with production.
Compared to other members of the ADAM family, ROCKS is taller, wider and tougher in appearance, while also offering a full-length electric folding canvas roof.
And parts of its chassis system – raised by 15mms – have been modified or re-tuned, including dampers, springs, the rear suspension and steering.
A higher, wider styling is matched by the choice of 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels which can be personalised with new wheel clips in ‘Wild’ design and unique colours.
Adding to a more muscular look is anthracite-coloured cladding around the car, which also comes with an integrated rear roof spoiler, LED daytime running lights and silver skid plates.
The plan is also to introduce new exterior paint colours, starting with a vibrant yellow Goldbusters shade.
Vauxhall says the folding canvas roof will available in a choice of three exterior colours – Black, Sweet Coffee or Light Oak – that combine with the different roof colours.
Inside, two new cabin trims – one taken direct from the concept – include a main instrument cluster, seat and door panel colours.
ROCKS will be the first model to feature Vauxhall’s new 1.0-litre ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo three-cylinder engine.
Start/Stop technology is standard and the unit comes with a choice of two power outputs – 90 and 115PS. Both versions are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Like its stablemates, ROCKS is available with an Intelilink infotainment system – priced from £275 – allowing integration of Android as well as Apple iOS smartphone functions into the car.
It provides USB and Bluetooth, audio streaming, a seven-inch colour touch screen and seven speakers. Apps like BringGo, Stitcher and TuneIn can also be downloaded.
Prices will be announced closer to the car’s UK launch.
